Serena: Hi! My parents wouldn’t let me dye my hair radical colours till I was like 16 either.
First thing is to check what your school will allow- it really sucks to have amazing hair which you then have to swiftly get rid of. Some schools seem more lenient to “natural” un natural hair colours, for example brighter reds/oranges, blacks with dark purple/blue tints etc
I think that most parents worry about the age of their children dying their hair bright colours as they think that they are not responsible enough to take care of the hair after colouring and thus ruin it, which is something anyone needs to consider when dying their hair.
You probably need to discuss with your parents the reasons they feel you are too young to dye your hair and understand where they are coming from, hopefully they will see that you are trying to understand and it will make them more open to listening to your reasons FOR dying your hair. Try and make comprises with them too about the colour perhaps?
I first got my mum to agree to let me dye my hair darker at 14, then at 15 have a strip bleached so I could dye it brightly coloured, then all over black at 16 (which was her worst nightmare for my hair ha ha)
I am sorry I haven’t given you a decisive answer, as in honesty I don’t think there really is a specific age.
Hope this helps!
